Belt Video
This video is silent.

This is a video of the belt drive table carving a 2 x 8 x 18 inch piece of spf framing lumber.

This machine was designed to use a trim router but it can support a full sized router; however, the router will not be pushed to its potential.

The router in the video is a 2.5 hp Makita with a 1/2 x 2-1/4 inch double fluted bit.

The cuts were made at 100 ipm at 1/4 inch deep per pass.
This depth of cut worked well; deeper cutting at this speed, with this bit, caused chatter. The chatter was primarily permitted by the belts' flexibilty.

The pattern was completely cut in less than 5 minutes with four roughing passes.

The prototype in the video uses the Xylotex 269 oz. in. system.

The Xylotex 425 oz in. steppers were also tested and they delivered higher cutting forces.
Their extra power was usually unnecessary since the table chattered before the router labored.

The HobbyCNC 305 system performs similarly to the Xylotex 269 system.
